LIV Golf players removal from the FedEx Cup rankings
This week the PGA Tour announced that the suspended players that defected to the LIV Golf Series would be ineligible to compete in the Tour Championship now with $18 million going to the winner at East Lake Golf Club.
The players who have publicly announced their resignation from the PGA Tour have already been removed from the rankings.
Those that have joined LIV but have not resigned from the PGA Tour are still listed on the FedEx Cup rankings. However they will also be removed from the FedEx Cup rankings prior to the start of the Tour Championship as announced from the PGA Tour.
Dustin Johnson, Kevin Na, Sergio Garcia, Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel, and Brandon Grace are the PGA Tour members who preemptively resigned from the PGA Tour.
Phil Michelson, Bryson Dechambeau, Talor Gooch, Graeme McDowell, Carlos Ortiz, Paul Casey, have not resigned from the PGA Tour and appear to be prepared for a fight.
It’s almost certain that some the players that joined the LIV Golf Series who haven’t resigned their PGA Tour cards will seek an injunction to participate in the events similar to the DP World Tour players that sought an injunction to play in the Scottish Open the weeks prior to the Open Championship.
Bubba Watson is the latest to join the LIV Golf Series.
Players to Watch
Tony Finau
Fresh off of his 3rd professional win at the 3M Open, Tony Finau is looking to move further up the FedEx Cup rankings with a good result this week.
Finau improved from 30th to 17th in the FedEx Cup rankings with the win last week.
Although he was already in the field the Tour Championship in Atlanta, the move from 30th to 17th means that Tony will start the Tour Championship at 2 under par instead of at even par for 30th in the rankings.

Sahith Theegala
Despite the cut at the 3M Open last week Sahith has been playing well this season and should be in the running for Rookie of the Year honors.
Ranked 38th in the FedEx Cup ranking, Theegala’s spot in the first two rounds of the Tour Championship is pretty much cemented.
Cam Champ
After a disastrous opening round at the 3M Open, Cam Champ was able to bounce back not only to make the cut but also to also to make it inside the top 20 to finish the event.
Cam’s Thursday round of 75 was tied for his worst opening round of the season. A triple bogey on the 2nd hole of the day sent Champ’s round south early, and after 3 consecutive bogeys on the 4th, 5th and 6th holes his cut chances were dwindling.
However a clean back nine culminating in a eagle on the closing hole may have been the jump start that Cam needed going into Friday.
Friday’s round of 68 was good enough for Ch got him just inside the one over par cut line to play the weekend.
Back to back 67 on Saturday and Sunday vaulted Champ up the leader board to a T-16 finish.
Champ is currently on the outside looking in for the Tour Championship. Prior to last week’s event Cam was ranked 157 on the FedEx Cup rankings, and jumped 8 spots to 149.
Joseph Bramlett
Joseph is currently ranked 170 in the FedEx Cup ranking and needs a great week to get close to the 125 cut line for the Tour Championship.
Wyatt Worthington
Wyatt gained an exemption into the Rocket Mortgage Classic by winning the John Shippen National Invitational.
