Varner and 5 others are in the latest round of defections to LIV Golf following the conclusion the Tour Championship.
The other four included the #2 player in the world, Cam Smith.
It was long rumored that the Australian would be leaving for LIV, however the timing of the move appeared to be up in the air in recent months.
Smith appeared to have no incentive to announce his intentions prematurely as the next LIV Golf event would be held after the conclusion of the Tour Championship.
Smith dodged questions regarding his potential exit from the PGA Tour at the Open Championship, after reported conversations his camp has had with LIV Golf.
To note, LIV Golf is run by fellow Australian CEO Greg Norman, who has been courting his countrymen to the LIV Golf Series in hopes of creating an all Australians team within the LIV Ecosystem.
Marc Leishman who is also from Australia and good friends with Smith is also leaving the PGA Tour for the LIV.
The pair have played together and won on the PGA Tour in the team events.
In 2021 the pair won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
