The PGA Tour returns to U.S. after last week’s trip to Japan for the ZOZO Championship which was won by Keegan Bradley.
This week the best golfers in the world head to South Carolina for the CJ Cup.
Last year’s edition of the CJ Cup was hosted at The Summit Club in Las Vegas, and won by Rory McIlroy. Rory took home $1.89 million of the $10.5 million purse which attracts some of the best golfers in the world.
The CJ Cup did not receive a purse bump as several events received as a result of the PGA Tour’s response to the threat posed by the upstart, LIV Golf.
Started in 2017, the CJ Cup is fielding it’s 6th event. The event has been won twice by Justin Thomas (2017/2019), and Rory McIlroy are both in the field this year.
The other two events were won by Brooks Koepka (2018) and Jason Kokrak (2020) who have both left for LIV Golf, and subsequently banned by the PGA Tour.
Brooks won his first LIV Golf event last week in Jeddah. His first win on the LIV Golf Invitational series.
The venue this year is Congaree Golf Club in Gillisonville, SC forty miles north of Hilton Head. The event has rotated venues over the past three years.
