Amari Avery received her third invite to compete in the 2023 Augusta National Women’s Amateur (ANWA).
This will be Avery’s third trip to Georgia for the ANWA.
The USC sophmore’s best finish was in 2022 when she finished tied for fourth place.
Avery finished the 2022 with rounds of 73-72-72 over the three day tournament which was good enough for the top-10 finish.
The 2023 finish was a vast improvement over her first appearance in the event at the 2021.
In 2021 Amari missed the cut by one shot after going 74-76 over the first two days.
Amari received honorable mention for Golfweek‘s Female Amateur Golfer of the Year 2022.
This will be the 4th edition of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur.
Starting in 2019, the 2020 tournament was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
August National is well known for its yearly hosting of the Masters Tournament which is now hosted the week following the ANWA.
Unlike the Masters which is played as a 72-hole tournament, the ANWA is contested over 54 holes.
An additional nuance of the ANWA is that the first two rounds are not contested at Augusta National, but at the nearby Champions Retreat Golf Course.
The women then will play a Friday practice round at Augusta National.
Following the practice round on Friday the field is then cut to the top 30 for the final round on Saturday.
