The 2nd Major Championship is in the books, and the PGA Tour moves on to Texas for the Charles Schwab Challenge.
Established in 1946 as the Colonial National Invitational, this will be the 76th playing of the Fort Worth based event.

Colonial Country Club has hosted the event for the entirety of its history. In addition to annually hosting the Charles Schwab Challenge, Colonial also hosted the 1941 U.S. Open, the 1975 Tournament Players Championship, and the 1991 U.S. Women’s Open.
Despite the rich history of this event it was not chosen by the PGA Tour to be elevated to designated event status.
However the purse for this year’s event did receive a slight bump. In 2022, the field played for a total purse of $8.4 million with $1.512 million going to the champion, Sam Burn. This year the field will compete for a total purse of $8.7 million with $1.566 million heading to the eventual winner.
The Charles Schwab Challenge is sandwiched between last week’s PGA Championship, and next week’s designated event, The Memorial Tournament. The reduced top players in this week’s event reflects the absence of some of the best players taking this week off to get ready for next week’s designated event.

Another of the few events where Tiger Woods has not won. His only appearance at Colonial Country Club came in 1997 when the tournament was known as the MasterCard Colonial. He finished the tournament at twelve-under-par which was good enough for fourth place.
