Next stop for the PGA Tour is San Diego for the Farmers Insurance Open. This event will be the 15th of the wrap around season and the fifth of the calendar year.
Established in 1959 as the San Diego Open, this will be the 71st edition of the tournament. Farmers Insurance has been a title sponsor since 2010.
Previous corporate sponsors include Buick 1992-2009, Shearson Lehman Brothers, 1986-1991, and Isuzu 1983-1985.
Since 1968 the tournament has been hosted at picturesque Torrey Pines Golf Course. Torrey Pines has also hosted two major championships.
The U.S. Open in 2008 won by Tiger Woods, and 2021 won by Jon Rahm, who is also in the field this week, were contested on the South Course at Torrey Pines.
Tiger Woods is not in the field this week, however he does hold the record with the most wins at the event at seven (1999, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2013).
Phil Mickelson has the 2nd amount of wins at at the Farmers Insurance Open with three (1993, 2000, and 2001).
However Phil will not be in the field this week due to his suspension from the PGA Tour for his defection to LIV Golf.
Patrick Reed (2021), Marc Leishman (2020), and Bubba Watson (2011) are the other Farmers Insurance winners that, like Mickelson, have also moved on to LIV Golf and have been suspended from further competition on the PGA Tour.

Tony Finau
This will be Tony’s 9th trip to Torrey Pines for the Farmers Insurance Open.
In eight previous appearances Finau has 4 top-10 finishes with his best performance coming in 2021 when he finished runner up to Patrick Reed.
In five events so far this season Tony has four top-20 finishes and a missed cut.
The top-20 finishes include 3 top-10s including a win at the Cadence Bank Houston Open back in November.
Tony’s most recent finish was a tie for 16th place at last week’s American Express tournament.
Finau is ranked 10th in the FedEx Cup, and 12th in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Sahith Theegala
This will be Sahith’s 2nd appearance at the Farmers Insurance Open.
In his debut at the 2022 event he finished 25th.
Sahith was also in the field at the 2021 U.S. Open that was played at Torrey Pines, however he missed the cut at the 3rd major championship of the year.
In official events Sahith does not have any wins this season on the PGA Tour, however he did win the QBE Shootout an unofficial event on the PGA Tour.
Theegala’s best finish in official events was a tie for second at the RSM Classic.
Sahith has three top-10s in eight events so far this season.
He finished last week’s American Express tournament tied for 54th.
Cam Champ
This will be Cam’s 5th trip to Torrey Pines for the Farmers Insurance Open. In four other appearances he has made the cut twice.
His best result was a tie for 16th in 2020.
Cam was also in the field for the 2021 U.S. Open that was played at Torrey Pines.
In six events this season Cam has missed the cut 5 times. His best finish was a tie for 8th at the ZOZO Championship.
Champ was not in the field for last week’s American Express.
In other news, Cam filed for and received a release to play in the 2023 Saudi International, which is funded and run by the same parties that oversee LIV Golf.
Joseph Bramlett
This will be Joseph’s 5th trip to Torrey Pines for the Farmers Insurance Open.
Bramlett has made the cut in his last three appearances, and his best result was 18th in 2021.
Joseph has made the cut in 7 of the 9 events he has played this season on the PGA Tour.
His best finish was a tie for 9th at the Cadence Bank Houston Open.
Bramlett finished tied for 54th at the American Express last week.
