After entering the final round tied for the lead, Tony Finau was unable to pass a red-hot Rory McIlroy on Sunday afternoon. The successfully defended RBC Canadian Open Championship by Rory was also his 21st win on the PGA Tour.
Finau finished two shots behind McIlroy and a shot ahead of playing partner Justin Thomas who finished in third place.
Despite the sting of another 2nd place finish, Finau has to be encouraged by his play leading into the U.S. Open next week, and the Open Championship coming next month.
After tying his best round of the season on Saturday a 62, Finau followed that up with a final round 64 in the tune-up week before the U.S. Open.
With this strong finish one can imagine that the LIV Golf series will be approach Finau with another substantial offer to join their league.
Tony has participated in several installments on the Saudi International; mort recently this past February which was won by Harold Varner III.
Finau has voices his support for the PGA Tour but is yet to give a full-throated endorsement of remaining on the PGA Tour or shunning the massive pay day the LIV Golf series is offering.
Whether he stays or leaves, Finau will be in the field next week in Brookline, MA at The Country Club for The 122nd U.S. Open, hoping that his good form continues long enough to secure his first Major Championship.
