The top players are heading to Canadian before going on to Massachusetts for the U.S. Open.
The tournament returns after cancellations in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.
The strong field this week includes:
Sam Burns, Tony Finau, Shane Lowry, Rory Mcilroy, Scottie Scheffler, Justin Rose, Cam Smith, Justin Thomas, Harold, Varner III
It makes sense that Dustin Johnson is not in the field this week due to the announcement that he will be in the field for the inauguaral LIV Golf tournament held in London. June 9-11.
Johnson was also dropped by RBC as fallout from his decision to join the rival golf tour.
It is rumored that johnson received a hefty sum to defect from the PGA Tour.
Additional PGA defections include:
Sergio Garcia, Kevin Na, Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, Graeme McDowell, Branden Grace, Matt Jones, Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel, Talor Gooch, Hudson Swafford, and Phil Mickelson (at the 11th hour).
The additional 42 slots are made up of golfers from international tours where the LIV Golf payday would be a windfall event.
This will be Tony’s 5th trip to Canada for the RBC. Fifth place in 2017 has been his best finish.
Finau is in the field at the U.S. Open due to qualifying for the 2021 Tour Championship.
Tony has been playing well with two top-5 finishes in his last 4 events.
This will be Joseph’s 2nd trip to Canada for the Canadian Open. His last appearance was a missed cut in 2011.
Bramlett will be in the US Open field after qualifying on golf’s longest day.
Joseph finish 51st in the ATT Byrons Nelson the last even he has played in.
This will be Cam’s 2nd trip north of the boarder for the RBC Canadian Open. His first trip resulted in a missed cut back in 2019.
Cam has not qualified for next week’s US Open.
Cam mised the cut in his last two events, the PGA Championship and Memorial.
This will be Harold’s 5th trip to Canada for the RBC.
His best finish has been 17th in 2018.
Harold will be in the field for next week’s U.S. Open
Entering the week he has two top-5 finishes in his last 5 events.
This will be Sahith’s first trip to Canada for the RBC.
Sahith will not be in the field for the U.S. Open
Theegala is on a roll making the cut in his last 5 events. His third top-ten finish came last week at the Memorial Tournament when he finished tied for 5th.
