The PGA Tour heads to Detroit for the Rocket Mortgage Classic (RMC). Established in 2019 this will be the fifth playing of the event which is the only stop in Michigan on the PGA Tour Schedule.
The RMC replaced Quicken Loans National and landed Detroit an ongoing place on the PGA Tour Schedule. The Quicken Loans National which was played from 2007 to 2018 was hosted by Tiger Woods and benefited his foundation.
Former RMC Champion, Bryson DeChambeau (2020) is not in the field this week due to his suspension from the PGA Tour for his defection to LIV Golf.
However with the recent PGA Tour – LIV Golf – DP World Tour merger it was announced that there will be a path back to the PGA Tour for those that left for LIV Golf but the reinstatement process will take place after this PGA Tour season. Detail of the qualification for reinstatement to the PGA and DP World Tours have not been announced.
The RMC did not receive an elevation to designated status however the purse did receive a slight bump this year. This year the field plays for a total of $8.4 million up from $8.4 million in 2022. This year the eventual champion will pocket $1.584 million up from the $1.512 pocketed by champion Tony Finau in 2022.
