The golf world heads to Los Angeles for the 123rd U.S. Open. This is the 14th time the U.S. Open has come to California, but the first time being held in L.A.
Los Angeles Country Club will host the third major championship of the year. LA CC also hosted the Los Angeles Open five times from 1926 to 1940.
Prior to the repeal of the PGA’s “Caucasians-Only Clause” in 1961, the LA Open was one of the few predominantly white tournaments that welcomed black players. The LA Open is now known as the Genesis Invitational, hosted by Tiger Woods, and benefits his foundation.
Last year’s US Open headlines were dominated by the arrival of LIV Golf and the first London LIV event. And after last week’s announcement of the LIV-PGA Tour- DP World Tour merger LIV dominates the golf world headlines once again.
The third major championship of the season will feature 15 golfers from LIV, three of which are previous U.S. Open winners.
Brooks Koepka won back-to-back in 2017 and 2018, Bryson DeChambeau won in 2020, and Dustin Johnson won in 2016.
