This week the PGA Tour goes south of the border for the first of two tournaments held in Mexico.
The World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba will be hosted at El Camaleon Golf Club in Playa del Carmen Mexico an hour south of Cancun.
The 2022 event will be the 16th edition of the tournament which was started in 2007.
$8.2 million will be the total purse the field will be playing for with the winner taking on $1.47 million. Up from $7.2 million in 2021 the purse for this year’s event received a million dollar increase. The winner will also receive an invite to the Masters.

Players to Watch
Tony Finau
This will be Tony’s 7th trip to Mexico for the Mayakoba Golf Classic. His best finish at El Camaleon was a 7th place finish in 2014.
Finau finished last year’s event in 45th place. After two rounds in the 60’s, Finau finished the weekend with 70’s on Saturday and Sunday and out of contention.
This will be Tony’s first event of the 2022-2023 season. He made the Tour Championship and finished the 2021-2022 9th in the FedEx Cup rankings.
Cam Champ
This will be Cam’s 4th trip to Mexico for the Mayakoba Golf Classic. His best finish was 10th place in 2017.
Cam’s last appearance at this event was 2019, as he skipped the event in 2020 and 2021.
For the new 2022-2023 season Cam has entered 3 events with his best finish being 8th when the PGA Tour visited Japan for the ZOZO Championship.
Cam missed the cut at the Fortinet Championship, and Shriners Children’s Open.
Joseph Bramlett
This will be Joe’s fourth trip to Mexico for the Mayakoba Golf Classic. His best finish was in 2011, his only missed cut, when he finished in 65th place.
